Ayeratukko (Huge nest)
The indefatigable Mary Anaba is a force of nature.
She arrives outside the gates of the Baba Tree compound at 7:00 AM and starts weaving before the doors open at eight. I have to kick her out of the compound at 7:30 at night. I envy her focus and drive. She works and creates with nary a complaint and offers up help and guidance to less accomplished weavers at the drop of a hat.
"Ayeratukko" is the name of this basket. Ayeratukko is the name of the huge nests built by very small birds here in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
This basket is Exclusive to the Baba Tree and there are very few of it's kind. This piece is another of Mary Anaba's versions of the "Ayeratukko" and it would, of course, appeal to the discerning buyer.
