The Banasco is handwoven in Bolgatanga, Ghana from a fine, local straw that is used nowadays for weaving hats. This is the original straw used for all weaving in days past before the introduction of a thicker straw - elephant grass - grown in Ghana's wetter south that is used to weave Bolga baskets

The weaving detail is closer to woven cloth than to a basket.

Compact and beautifully balanced, it holds its shape with quiet confidence.
