Yoomelingah - Yure Art Basket

The Yoomelingah-yure is a handwoven Bolga art basket from Bolgatanga, Ghana. This one is all curves.

Yoomelingah-yure, the "Bent Pot" in Gurune, borrows the shape of the cooking pot found in every home across the region, the vessel that has held family life for generations.

The weaver kept the bend and the swell of it, then drew the shape into something quieter, a form made to be looked at rather than used.

The presence is calm. The curves are deliberate.

Densely woven in elephant grass, this African art basket comes in three sizes, from a small piece to a generous large.

The weaver of this Baba Tree basket will receive a commission on the retail price of this basket in addition to what they were initially paid upon completion of the basket. 12.5% for the large and medium sizes, and 10% commission for the small size.
