Material Futures - Tiny Nosere Yure by Mary Anaba

$285.00 AUD

Decorative basket made with a creative combination of straw and upcycled textiles

The Material Futures project interweaves our extraordinary culture of baskets with textile waste discovered at our local markets, then sorted and trimmed to weaving lengths to create luxury home and fashion accessories. The introduction of these waste textiles has enabled our artisan weavers to create never-seen-before colour schemes, fascinating textures and add wild adornments to their baskets.

We’ve chosen five of our favourite baskets - Tiny Tua Tia, Tiny Pakurigo Wave, Tiny Nosere Yure, Pot and our Stay Flow basket bag for this project. Each basket is absolutely unique!

WEAVER: Mary Anaba

The weaver of this Baba Tree product will receive a 10% commission on the retail price in addition to what they were paid upon completion.

Product Care

Handling and Care

Our baskets are handwoven with care and are designed to last. To maintain their beauty and functionality, we recommend to follow these guidelines:

Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the colours to fade.

Keep Dry: Avoid getting the baskets wet. If they do get wet, allow them to dry naturally in a shaded area.

Clean Gently: Use a dry or slightly damp cloth to wipe away dust and dirt. Do not use harsh chemicals or detergents.

Reshape When Needed: If your basket loses its shape, you can reshape it by lightly misting with water and gently molding it with your hands. Click on How to Reshape a Basket to learn more.

Leather Care

The handles of our baskets often come with leather wrapping. To care for the leather:

Keep Leather Dry: Avoid exposure to water. If the leather gets wet, blot it dry with a soft cloth.

Conditioning: Occasionally condition the leather with a suitable leather conditioner to keep it supple and prevent cracking.

Storage

Store baskets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not stack heavy items on top of them to avoid deforming their shape.

Safe & Use

Are you surprised at the shape that your basket has come in? Well, it is very easy to re-shape, and will only require a few minutes of your time to bring the basket back to its former glory. First up…

Reshaping Of A Basket

  1. Grab the handle, and with your other hand push out the basket from the bottom centre. Don’t be afraid to use a bit of elbow grease, for the baskets are very resilient.
  2. Fill your bathtub, deep sink, or a deep container with cool water.
  3. Immerse the basket in the water, up to just above the coil (rim) – do not get water on the leather. If the weather is nice, you can take the basket outside and spray it with your garden hose. Avoid spraying the leather.
  4. Hold the basket in the water for about 60 seconds, or more. Then pull the basket out of the water, shaking off the excess water.
  5. Let the basket sit for a couple of minutes to allow water to penetrate the straw.
  6. process by pushing the basket base against the floor while holding onto the coil.
  7. Allow to dry, undisturbed, out of the sun in a dry place.
  8. Please do your best to use the water to water a tree or a plant.
  9. The dyes on our baskets are susceptible to fading in the sun.
